In this chaotic and fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught up in the never-ending cycle of stress and worry. However, amidst the chaos, there is a simple yet powerful tool that has the potential to transform our lives – gratitude. Being thankful and cultivating a sense of gratitude can enhance our well-being, foster positivity, and bring a smile to our faces. So, let's embark on a journey to explore the importance of gratitude and develope a new habit that has proven to improve your life and outlook!

Gratitude is like massaging our souls (and who here couldn't go for a good massage!). Our souls are so often ignored but many faiths speak of the soul as the root of our true self.  Expressing gratitude, being thankful, shifts our focus from what is lacking to what we have, enabling us to fully appreciate the blessings around us. When we practice gratitude, we train our minds to discover joy in the smallest moments and see the silver lining in challenging situations. It reminds us that life is not a collection of problems but a mixture of blessings to cherish.

My favorite book in the Bible is the book of Proverbs as it reminds me the Bible is not just a source of spiritual guidance but also a treasury of wisdom.  That wisdom is found in more than just Proverbs though.  In the book of Colossians, the Apostle Paul reminds us, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (Colossians 3:17, NIV). This verse encourages us to infuse gratitude into every aspect of our lives, recognizing that thankfulness can be an act of praise and a way to honor God.

To experience the true power of gratitude, let's embark on a small challenge. As part of your daily routine this month of November, take a few moments to reflect on three things you are grateful for. These could be simple things like a warm cup of coffee in the morning, a kind gesture from a stranger, or even the sound of laughter. Encouraging ourselves to find reasons to be thankful every day helps rewire our minds and fosters a positive outlook on life.  I'll start since I'm throwing this out at you:

1.  I'm thankful for my wife, Lauren. She has to put up with me!

2.  I still have most of my pinky. ;)

3. Living in Alaska.

Now, each day, think of three more things.  Large or small. Personal or impersonal.  You can note a reason or not. But be honest!

In a world filled with challenges, expressing gratitude is a powerful way to bring about positive change in our lives. It cultivates contentment, strengthens relationships, and promotes mental well-being. So, let us not forget to stop, reflect, and express our thanks for the simple joys that often go unnoticed. Remember, gratitude paves the way for a brighter tomorrow, and it all begins with appreciating the blessings that surround us today. Let us face each day with a grateful heart, a cheerful spirit, and a smile on our faces.

You Got This!
